How to Download Java on Chromebook?
Step1: Turn your Chromebook to the developer mode.
Step2: Login to your device.
Step3: You will be taken to the open the command shell.
Step4: Now, Press Ctrl+Alt+T keys, it will open the Crosh shell.
Step5: To open the full Bash shell, type ‘shell’.
Step6: You can now run commands as “roots” with Sudo via your ordinary account.
Step7: Now, enter “sudo su” and click Enter on your Chromebook’s keyboard.
Step8: You’ll be asked for the password.
According to your Chrome OS, the password may be:
- Face punch
The password may vary if you have set your own shell password. So, type the password you have set already.
Step9: To make the system file writable, enter “mount -o remount, exec, rw/” and tap the Enter button.
Step10: Now, type “cd /home” and click Enter button.
Step11: Java 8 starts to download from Oracles website.
- For 32-bit device: Enter “wget http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/downlo…undleId=106238 -Ojre.tar.gz” and tap Enter.
- For 64-bit device: Enter “wget http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/downlo…undleId=106240 -Ojre.tar.gz” and tap Enter.
Step13: To extract the Java 8 file that is downloaded, Enter “tar zxvf jre.tar.gz” and tap the Enter button.
Step14: Enter “mv jre1.8* /bin” and click Enter button.
Step15: Enter “cd/bin” and click the Enter button; this will open the executable folder on your Chromebook.
Step16: Enter “1n -s/bin/jre1.8.0_45/bin/java/bin/java” and tap Enter button.
You should replace the number “45” by the number of the Java version on the Java website.
Step17: Enter java-version in the shell as the name of the version of the Java that is installed newly.
Step1: Navigate to and click your Profile picture on your Chromebook.
Step2: By tapping the gear icon, you will reach to the Chromebook Settings.
Step3: Navigate to Show Advanced Settings and tap it.
